Ice skating? No. Soup kitchen? No. Worship service? No. Snow. Not lots, but enough to preclude a trip into town that was not absolutely necessary. The pastor was disappointed, not because we didn’t help out in the soup kitchen, but because he wanted to spend time with us! We will make up for that tomorrow after church and next week when we go to the university and meet up with people there. The pastor is coming with us. It’s nice to be wanted.
So what did we do? Continue reading

Yesterday evening ended this morning, so I can blog about it. Ashley gave one of the students her truck to drive to music practice. On the way home, he made a wrong turn, and when he attempted to turn around, the truck hit a patch of ice and slid into the ditch. Continue reading

Four lessons in one day. Fewer breaks. Excellent discussions on missionary children’s education and missionary lifestyle (living at the same level of the missionary’s target audience).

He said that he had not had the time to prepare the congregation for our visit, but hoped that we had had a good time. I told him that the students came away from the service saying, “Wow! Those people are really friendly!” I said that we wouldn’t know what to expect if the congregation was prepared:) He said that would greatly encourage the congregation. Continue reading

50 degrees below zero…finally! Clear skies, clean air, total quiet. The scrunching of boots on the snow sounds sacrilegious. Phil went outside to take pictures of the sun creeping up behind a building on the property. He got a shot of the light streaming through an open window like a laser. He came inside with ice cycles hanging on his nose. Continue reading

We had one lesson today: enculturation and acculturation (google it). Daniel, from Florida, understood mild acculturation when he moved to Spokane. Daniel, from Chicago, identified as well. Minji…well, Minji was born in South Korea, she has been working with her missionary parents in Bangladesh, and she flew in from India to join us on this trip. Continue reading
